Rara Avis
There are multiple bands with the name "Rara Avis".
1) RARA AVIS from Czech Republic/Slovakia. They releasing their debut album on January 29, 2010.
Rara Avis belong to the biggest talents on the Czech/Slovakia scene: songs on their debut album ''The Portrait'' aim the deepest parts of human heart and show hidden imaginations and dreams. Musicians work for their own original sound but they like retro feelings as well. ''New songs are more aggressive compared to the last EP. They float between the expressivity and intimacy, they are darker and sometimes quite surprising'' says the band. Their work could be compared with Marvel Hill or Suede, but it has something from Matt Bellamys confidence as well.
Besides the music Rara Avis are also inspired by movies, extreme life situations and especially by the actual process of writing the songs. ''We wan to get the best from ourselves, what we couldn't get from anybody else. We hate conventions or forced effort to be trendy, which is one of the reasons, why our production is so different'' musicians add self-confidently. And it's noticeable in the result: Rara Avis music helps to eliminate internal barriers, it is very energic and intensive.
Album ''The Portrait'' was recorded and produced by MArek Rakovický (Lavagance), written mainly by Daniel Galba and Lukáš Sova. Beside eight energic songs it contains also two slow emotive songs and one of them - January and the kindred spirit - is going to be the first single, the video for this song is planned soon.

3) Rara Avis combines over 15 years of multi-genre musical study with an intuitive understanding of modern technology. His classical training partnered with his passion for electronic dance music, results in original lush downtempo compositions fuelled with psychedelic guitar, vocals, and a healthy dose of improvisation rooted in jazz.
Rara’s musical identity started as a teenager by exploring his zeal for blues guitar and Jimi Hendrix. To further broaden his knowledge, he studied jazz, classical, theory, arranging, ear training, music history, vocals, percussion, keyboards, and digital music production, while attending college. His musical open-mindness led him to discover the Moontribe collective from Southern California, A community of electronic music enthusiasts who throw legendary full moon gatherings. After experiencing their technological tribal energy for years, Rara relocated to Los Angeles to pursue his passion for electronic music.
In Los Angeles, Rara collaborated with many of the leading underground producers and DJ’s on the scene. He also became heavily involved with Zen Dancing & the Shaman's Dream family, an improvisational global fusion dance band led by Craig Kohland, Micheline Berry, and an array of different artists gathered over the years. Rara is also part of the Desert Dwellers production team alongside Treavor Moontribe and Amani Friend. Their production focuses on downtempo with excursions into tribal house and trance with an underlying organic foundation.
Shaktified is a collection of Rara’s most recent musical amalgamations, inspired by the reclusive-ness of his surroundings in Harbin Hot Springs, California. His music weaves intricate tapestries of fluent world rhythms, scorching guitar melodies with electro overtones. Shaktified showcases Rara Avis’ latest developments into the nature of sound.

4) Rara Avis is a duo of recorder player Terri Hron and percussionist Robbert van Hulzen. Recorders, percussion and electronics revolve in a wonderland where old and new may not be what they seem. Rara Avis, the odd birds, hunt pretty ones in many styles, eras, and cultures, and swoop down to combine and/or force them into their abstract folk patchwork.
Terri Hron and Robbert van Hulzen met roaming eclectic Amsterdam. Discovering that their very different musical worlds (medieval versus free improv, contemporary classical versus Javanese gamelan) rubbed against each other in many ways, they started experimenting together in 2004. In various projects, the duo added electronics, guest musicians, and ideas collected from friends. One Fell Swoop gathers a selection of pieces resulting from these sound investigations.
5) RARA AVIS is the contemporary jazz project of the Italian musician Stefano Ferrian. It was born on 2012 from a collaboration between Ken Vandermark (reeds) and Stefano Ferrian (saxophones). It features some of the best and most active italian emerging musicians like Luca Pissavini (double bass), Simone Quatrana (piano) and SEC_ (revox, instant sound treatment). It includes a bonus disc “Multicellulars Mutations” with duo/trio recordings.
Ken’s opinions regarding the project: “I’m extremely excited about the group for a number of reasons: the band is a cooperative, without a designated leader, everyone’s ideas and playing caries equal weight; the Italian members of Rara Avis are part of a new generation of players who are very knowledgeable about contemporary developments in improvised and composed music; and the fields of sound the ensemble explores are unique in terms of texture, velocity, dynamics- the traditional hierarchies of what instrument is “melodic,” what instrument supplies “rhythm,” are so turned on their head and blurred that it is often impossible to identify the creative sources at work during a performance.”
