Revel Moon
Revel Moon was born in late 2001 when Irene (lead vocals, lyrics) and Jay (percussion) returned to America from a few years in Okinawa . Irene's father, John (rhythm guitar), had written a few songs and the three Revelers thought it might be interesting to see where those songs took them. Soon, father and daughter became a songwriting team--Irene wrote lyrics and John found the right music to go with her words. Jay gave the music its throbbing heartbeat and helped arrange the songs.
The newly formed band knew they had something special. The next year was spent writing and arranging music. Revel Moon played their first gig in Missouri in February of 2002 with only drums, rhythm guitar and vocals. At that point in time, the band's sound was very folky and mellow. In the spring of 2003, the band went through a huge musical growth spurt. Revel Moon began to incorporate more of a rock sound into their material.
That new direction got another boost with the addition of BJ (bass) in late 2003. BJ's connection with Revel Moon began when he agreed to help with sound in the band's early days. His job at the time included long sojourns abroad, so he would have had a hard time making all the practices and shows. When BJ switched jobs, he was able to participate fully in the band.
Revel Moon became complete with the addition of Brett McCoy, the lead guitarist. Brett joined Revel Moon in early spring of 2005 and his lead guitar grooves help give the band its distinctive sound. The finished product? New World Rock. A blend of acoustic and electric instruments, world percussion, kickass vocals and a definite rock drive.
After an exciting three-year run, Revel Moon retired in late 2005 at the end of their fall gig season. The band no longer performs live and all members have gone on to other projects. Irene, Jay and BJ formed Cassandra Syndrome, an alternative metal band. Brett continues work with Alhazred, a progressive metal project. John has gone on to an as-yet untitled solo project. All former members remain close friends and appreciate the support you've given them throughout the years. Read more on Last.fm.
