Rockhaus
Rockhaus (Rock House) was formed from two school bands in 1978 in what was East Germany (GDR, DDR). In 1981 they became part of the East German rock scene with a sound close to funk oriented New Wave. Later their sound evolved more into rock.Their music and lyrics were influenced by the feelings of the East German youth at the time. Rockhaus became very popular. In the 1980s they were one of the most successful rock bands in the GDR. Based on DDR year-end music charts going back to 1972 Rockhaus had the second most #1 hits, surpassed only by Puhdys.
Rockhaus' first major album Sweets And Chocolates was released on Amiga in 1983. According to musicologist Michael Rauhut the album included the first German hip-hop song Disco In The Underground. This album was followed in 1985 by All Clear? and 1988's ILD. Also in 1988 Rockhaus was selected as the band of the year in the GDR.
In 1998 the band disbanded due to internal problems. Rockhaus reformed in 2005 and began touring. ILD was remastered in 2006 and released on cd. A tour of eastern Germany in 2006 was recorded for dvd and released in 2009 as Rock House - Thank You.
