Roger Walch & Taro Matsumoto
Swiss jazz pianist Roger Walch (born 1965 in St.Gallen) and Japanese Shakuhachi flutist Taro Matsumoto (born 1973 in Nara) are the members of a music duo formed in 2004 in Kyoto, Japan.
The unusual combination of Japanese bamboo flute and piano caught the attention of both a Western and Japanese audience. The duo’s repertoire is an interesting mixture of old Japanese folk songs, selected Jazz standards and powerful original compositions. Taro Matsumoto and Roger Walch have been giving concerts all over Japan, performing in jazz-clubs, concert halls and temples. In summer 2006 they completed a successful concert tour through Switzerland. Their acoustic music is emotional, playful and expressive.
Taro Matsumoto Studied classic shakuhachi music with world famous players Riley Lee and Toshimitsu Ishikawa. Roger Walch studied piano at the St.Gallen Jazz School, Switzerland.
The duo has released two albums: “Live” (2006) and “Immortal Remains” (2008).
