James has been involved with the music scene since the early 90’s as a DJ playing at various clubs up and down the country, clubs like Raindance, Fantazia & Dreamscape to name a few.
It was only a matter of time before James moved into production. Coming from the rave and jungle scene he started producing drum and bass in the late 90’s as one half of “The Outfit” a drum and bass production duo that has had over 20 releases including singles, EP’s and album tracks on most of the premier drum & bass labels. The big achievement was gaining a chart position of 3 in the dance chart. As a DJ, James has played at many of the top clubs throughout the UK e.g. Fabric, The End, Ministry Of Sound, Bar Rumba, as well as DJ’ing across Europe and America. James has also hosted and played on BBC 1Xtra, Ministry Of Sound, Vibe FM and Kiss FM.
James wanted to produce other genres of electronic music, using the elements of house, 80's, funk & soul, garage etc he setup up Rubix Sound. Rubix sound is an independent record label producing various styles of electronic music from House to drum & bass, synth pop to dustup.
Charlie grew up with music and has always been involved with it from an early age be it school choirs, stage shows through to performing for her local Radio station Mansfield 103.2.It wasn't until she worked abroad for a travel company as an Entertainer that she realised she could earn money from what she loved doing and that this was the only career she really wanted to pursue. She has worked the local pubs and club scene doing covers and also formed a duet with her close friend which is still going strong today called The Carnaby Girls.
Throughout trying to earn a living from singing she has always wanted to have her own career in music which she found difficult in some ways with her being unable to play an instrument but yet lyrics seem to come so easily.
She found people to collaborate with which has been a real help developing her skills as a writer through the years and then finally came across James Hancock in 2009 through a mutual friend when working on a Punkstar project and the two became a duo and RUBIX was born!
Charlie has been featured on Radio 1 Xtra on Ras Kwame's show with Punkstar tracks, Radio Mansfield 103.2 FM, Summer in the Streets throughout Nottinghamshire, Kemet FM and has also done TV work including Date My Brother on Trouble TV and features frequently in her local papers including The Chad and Recorder for Mansfield in relation to her music and also the charity work she likes to get involved in.
With a whole load of new material constantly on the go, RUBIX are going to be a act to reckon with. So come and join us on our Facebook page to keep updated on all the latest news and gig info.
