SPA
There are 3 groups with the name SPA.
1. SPA is new age, meditation, relaxation and healing music.
2. SPA That gets most plays on last.fm:
Started mid 2007, SPA quickly broke through thanx to the demo of Pets Dance which had the gut of an immediate anthem. Supported by London based XFM and Radio 1, then by the Ed Banger crew, SPA signed to Dim Mak mid 2008, and got a few remixes out for Mickey Moonlight (Ed Banger), Pacifc! (EMI) and Neimo (Shangri La) to name but a few.
SPA's debut single Pets Dance is out on Dim Mak early 2009 on vinyl/cd/digital, packed up with remixes from Les Petits Pilous (Boysnoize), The Bloody Beetroots and Steve Aoki (Dim Mak), and exclusive tune Dumbo .
Initially inspired by pets behaviour and feelings, SPA's music is part calm, part joyful, part violent, part dark... such versatility you might expect from an animal making music.
SPA's music is being compared to a psycho-active substance that unleashes the listener's primary instincts, waving pleasure through compulsive moves.
3. SPA:
Based out of Auckland, NZ: the sound of Spa is the sound of an indie summer – laid back rock/pop that invokes influences such as Pavement, Teenage Fanclub, The Kinks and Wilco. In their native New Zealand, the first two Spa singles ‘Neil of Diamonds’ and ‘Yale’ received considerable radio and video airplay on both mainstream and independent stations. ‘Neil of Diamonds’ (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=by8fKxny0XM) was nominated for Indie Video of the Year at the Juice Awards and ‘Yale’(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ehEXM9kEcmg) was a finalist for Best Animated Video in the Kodak Music Clip Awards.
Victorian based label Echobase Records is proud to announce the Australian release of Spa’s self-titled debut album on February 10. The first single to be lifted from the album for it’s Australian release is ‘Neil of Diamonds’. With Spa signed to Mushroom publishing in Australia, ‘Neil of Diamonds’ is a track audiences may well find themselves familiar with via it’s use on TV programs such as Home & Away. Dates are currently being locked in for a national Australian tour April / May 2008. Stay tuned for details.
Spa is Steven Tait (vocals, guitar), Hayden Sinclair (bass) and Brian Donnelly (drums). Tait and Sinclair have played in bands together for several years in Dunedin, London and now Auckland. Donnelly cut his teeth playing for such NZ rock icons as David Kilgour and the Chills.
"It is a rare song that can be played two or three times in a row, each listen revealing layer upon layer of musical goodness. Neil of Diamonds is such a song and it could evolve into a genuine Kiwi classic... A spa-rkling debut."
Paul Easton - Marlborough Express, 4 stars
“Classic Indie pop sound. Steven Tait’s guitars luxuriate in a deep warm bath of distortion – recalls great offshore bands such as The Go-Betweens, Pavement or Dinosaur Jnr”
Sunday Star Times – 4/5
“Simple Guitar pop that’s easy on the ears”.
Pulp Magazine – 3/5
