Scallymatic Orchestra
The 40th dying day of guitar god Hendrix was the reason for guitarist/arranger Mathijs Duringhof to start Scallymatizing the work of this legend and record it with his Scallymatic Orchestra. On Jimi's 70th birthday they now present: Band of Scallies.
The cross-over of vintage grooves with soul and jazz, the energy and 'space', musicality and expiriment, great riffs and beautiful songs all are elements that fit the Scallymatic glove like nothing else. It's the Scallymatic Sound: a fresh mix of soul, jazz and 70s grooves.
Especially for this project Scallymatic Orchestra works with singer Soul Mack. This Dutch talent has hardly been noticed yet, although he really is the Otis Redding of the Lowlands. During the week he's a warehouseman for a Chinese ladies underwear trader, on stage with Scallymatic Orchestra he sings like a star.
Scallymatic Orchestra, an 8-strong outfit with extended rhythmsection and horns, likes being out of bounds and will be unpredictable. At the same time the band is capable of staying true to their own identity and sound.
The balance between tightly arranged and spinning out of control keeps every concert energetic and spontaneous. That's what makes Hendrix' repetoire interesting for Scallymatic Orchestra. This will be a truly unique merge of soul, jazz and today's vintage grooves, paying hommage to one great soul in music.
