Scarlet Box
The male saturated SA music industry has been given a well-timed break in the form of the female led rock band Scarlet Box. The band, which formed in 2003, combines solid songwriting and undeniable passion with the appeal of rock chick glam. Scarlet Box, which consists of Jenna-Lee Phillips on lead vocals and guitar, Jitka Brzek on bass, Andrew Louw - Lead guitar (replaced Andrew Kerr & Daniel Brink) on lead guitar and Lucille Barry - drums (replaced Francois du Toit) on drums, recently joined with Sovereign Entertainment management and are set to tour the country in May 2006 with the Powerzone Roadshow. A solid act with an already dedicated following, the guys and gals of Scarlet Box are no strangers to the industry, having already worked with Brian O Shea and Garth McLeod from Bootcamp Records on their debut self-titled album, which was released in 2004. Just Be, a track from the album, claimed the number one slot on Julio Garcias Homebrew show after six weeks on the chart. Love-Hate, another release from the album, went to number two on the TUKSFM SA Top 10. Although they are a relatively new act, Scarlet Box have already shared the stage with a selection of South African stalwart bands, including: Karen Zoid; Arno Carstens; Prime Circle; The Finkelstiens; Wonderboom and Fokofpolisiekar. They have performed at: Hot Rock 2004; TUKSFM Mothership 2004 New Years Concert at the Pretoria State Theatre; CatSmack 2004; Raugate 2004; Splashy Fen 2005; TUKSFM Birthday Party 2005.
