Sol y Lluvia
Sol y Lluvia are a Chilean fólklor group formed in the 1980's and made a name for themselves as critics of their country's repressive then-military government. Writing songs for poor urban neighborhoods of Santiago, and in favor of human rights, they join the ranks of the Victor Jara, and Violeta Parra as the voice of the Chilean people, in particular the urban poor.
They represent the pro-democracy-resistance era of Latin-American social movements, and fittingly so their concerts are attended by grandmothers, communists young and old, punks, skinheads, community leaders, young professionals, young families, and many personal friends of the band. Sol y Lluvia are unique in among Chilean fólklor groups as a humanist, non-political group, in the tradition of the above-mentioned cantors, who continue to give relevant, authentic expressions of the feelings of the Chilean soul.
