Something Like Elvis
The idea of this group arose long time ago. According to the entrance calculations about 4,5 million years ago. At last circumstances came up with an idea to start playing together. Fascinations of both guys, as it turned out, were similar and they started practising. Soon Bartas`s brother Kuba joined the group as a bass player and vocalist. The group existed in in the end of XX century made this idea possible to materialize. First hints of this fact took place in 1994, when Bartas sold his guitar to Szreder. Not long after that Szreder that line-up for the first two years. Also at that time the name of the group appeared - Something Like Elvis from the movie "Wild at Heart" by David Lynch. In 1997 two more instruments joined the group - the accordion and the second guitar and what follows, two more musicians Szymbor and Mako. We got unbelievable willingness to play and in not more than half a year we made our debut material. In our friends` advice we sent it to the independent record company Antena Krzyku and in this way in October 1997 our first record "Personal vertigo" was published. Also that year we gave the first concert out of our home town Szubin. That event took place within the confines of the campaign MUSIC AGAINST RACISM initiated by the association NIGDY WIECEJ. Even though we were never politically involved and we didn`t conformed our music to any ideology, it was obvious for us to take part in that event. We were always open-minded and if it was possible we supported every manifestations of creative actions. The song "Holy Wars" was published on the medley "One Race Human Race" which was the product for the association NIGDY WIECEJ. In January 1998 "Personal Vertigo" was also published in Holland edited by Smoeff/Konkurent. Thanks to that the interesting concerts proposals started to come. The one of most memorable days for us is in January 1998 when we found out that there was a possibility to set out in a tour with Canadian group Nomeansno. We were OSIKANI PO PACHY in amazement, before that we gave only a few local concerts and there came a vision of regular tour with the group which than meant very much for us. The tour came to the point at the turn of October and November 1998. We gave with Nomeansno 9 concerts in Germany and in Poland. This event gave us self-confidence and a lot of energy for new actions. Despite of quite large number of given concerts in the meantime we were still composing new songs. In September 1999 our second record "Shape" was published also by Antena Krzyku. We started the promoting tour from West Europe. It was our first independent tour. We went to Germany, Holland, Belgium, Czech Republic and to Austria. During that tour we had a chance to appear with another great alternative group Fugazi from Washington. Within the space of several years of giving concerts we reached some more interesting places like Croatia, Slovenia, Switzerland and Italy. For a long time we'll be remember the journey to Rome, where turned out that our concerts there were only a mystification. We couldn`t find clubs where we ought to give concerts and what`s more the person, who was responsible for that. We had to sleep in a car on a gas station for 2 days. But the return from Rome to Pavia by the coast of Mediterranean - revelation! After successful concerts on the Old Continent the time for American target came. It became possible thanks to the invitation on a festival CMJ in New York. Despite that concert we were to give several more ones on the East Coast. In spite of many difficulties we successfully organized this tour and on 11th of September 2001 with other Polish groups Robotobibok, Program and Happy Pills we flied to New York. But events which took place that day in USA made it impossible for us to arrive so the tour also didn`t came to the point. It was reorganized in April 2002. We gave 6 concerts in 6 cities of the East Coast. Our new record will be portrayed in September. See you on the shows! Read more on Last.fm.
