A new band from Mallorca, started as the new project of British musician Steve Withers (now a resident in Mallorca) who got together with 5 other musicians, most of them already known because of their previous experiences in other bands (starting from the charismatic singer Adela Peraita, very well known for her massive success in the Spanish music scene back in the late 90's, with her former band Sunflowers).
Sterlin made their live debut on January 2004 during the ‘Sant Sebastiá” festivities in Palma, where they received the favour of both press and public, and they shared the stage with other international artists such as Cracker (US), You Am I (Australia) and Giant Sand (US). Their debut album, “The Loneliest Girl in the World”, was recorded in Mallorca during November 2004 and then mixed and mastered in Madrid during January 2005. The commercial release was April 4 th 2005, through Subterfuge Records, with a re-release in November 2005 with 5 extra tracks.
Listening to Sterlin is an experience to remember: Alluring melodies and thought provoking lyrics welcome you into each song. Songs with rich textures and lush arrangements, contemporary sounds mixing the best pop with classic rock and even the new technologies. Sterlin are very concerned with beauty and creating a fantastical atmosphere in each of their songs.
Since the album release the band hasn't stopped a minute. Following the great response from both media and fans, Sterlin have been presenting the record live throughout Spain. The band was also given the “New Music Talent of the year Award” given by the FNAC music stores, which have Sterlin's album in their charts as one of their top sellers.
Following shows in Madrid and Barcelona, they performed in some festivals like Malaga Film Festival, UniversiMad (Madrid), Valladolindie Festival (Valladolid) and Alternatilla (Mallorca). Their tour schedule kept getting busier, and throughout summer 2005 they played in some of the main Spanish Summer Festivals like Senglar Rock Festival in Lleida, Santander Summer Festival, Luna Lunera, Porta Ferrada Festival.... and Fonart-Illes Balears Short-Film Festival.
The band members: Adela Peraita , a very charismatic female singer, is Sterlin 's front woman. Adela's voice, sweet and luminous, is the most in-your-face trait in Sterlin's music, impregnating each passage with beautiful sonority. The drummer is Toni Toledo , who also plays for Sexy Sadie , one of the most famous and widely acclaimed bands in the Spanish independent/alternative scene, having sold thousands of records nation-wide.The rest of Sterlin's band members - guitarist Paco Torres , bass player Juanjo Rosselló and piano man Jaume Amengual - come from important bands in Mallorca's recent music scene; all but one, as there's also a British man playing guitar in the band, Steve Withers , who is in charge of writing Sterlin's everlasting songs. Withers, an experienced musician who after leaving behind his music career in the UK, as a member of bands like The Fits, is now living in Mallorca. His songs have found in Adela the perfect instrument to create a sound that is unique and modern, based on pure classicism, a new adaptation of rock and roll's basic parameters, with elegance and strong personality, opened to experimentation and determined to touch the listener.Sterlin shuffles a contemporaneous sound with an updated, peculiar and disturbing rock and roll flavour from the 50's, 60's and 70's. Loaded with future but with a deep knowledge and absolute respect for the most glorious past of rock music, in Sterlin's music emotion outweighs everything else.Their aim is to move the listener, to reach a point in which the music offers a beautiful and impeccable performance, to make us cry or to comfort misery.Music from the heart that never lets you down, like the best rock, either past or future.
