Tapiola Choir
Over the 45 years of its existence, the Tapiola Choir has evolved into one of the world’s best-known and most sought-after children’s and youth choirs. The Tapiola Choir is famous for its distinctive sound, described using a term coined by music critics abroad: the Tapiola Sound.
The Choir has more than 50 members, young musicians aged 9 to 18, all of whom also play at least one musical instrument in addition to singing. The Choir’s concerts often include choreography and instrumental numbers. The Choir logs some 50 performances per year in Finland and abroad. The annual Christmas concert with the title Katso ihme taivainen (Behold, a miracle from heaven) is a tradition dating back to the 1960s.
The joy of singing and making music, the apparent ease of performance and the licence to be a child are conveyed to audiences through the highest quality in musical performance. In addition to cultivating its blend and sound, the Choir encourages individuality and responsible personal freedom. This lends a natural, vivacious and unrestrained expression to the music as it resonates in a young and creative personality.
The Tapiola Choir rehearses in the KuoroUllakko (ChoirAttic) of the WeeGee house on Thursday nights. Auditions are held in the spring. For more information, please contact the Choir office.
