The Harvey Girls
The Harvey Girls, named after the famed railroad waitresses, was formed in Lawrence, Kansas, in 2003 by Melissa Rodenbeek and Hiram Lucke. Their music stands as a cross between Prince Paul's production work and the songs of the Shangri-Las (that's what they're sticking with; feel free to come up with your own description). They now reside in Portland, Oregon.
The influences for their folk-psyche-electro rumpus ( to name a few of the musical variety) include: The Beach Boys, Bjork, Kate Bush, Can, Captain Beefheart, De La Soul, Dr. Octagon, Aretha Franklin, Al Green, King Tubby, The Kinks, Fred Lane, Stephin Merritt, The Muppets, Os Mutantes, My Bloody Valentine, Milton Nascimento's "Clube da Esquina", Neutral Milk Hotel, Prince, People Like Us, the Shangri-Las, The Swirlies, T. Rex, Tall Dwarfs, Townes Van Zandt, Bukka White, and The Zombies.
