The King Of France
New York City-based The King of France is journalist Michael Azerrad on drums and Steve Salad (ex-Deformo) on guitar and vocals. The band released their debut album Salad Days on Egret Records in 2003 and their national self-titled release on Echo Records in 2005.
Steve Salad is originally from Minneapolis and his brother is performer Peter Salett. Neither a stranger to fame, Michael Azerrad wrote Our Band Could Be Your Life and the Nirvana bio Come As You Are, and is a frequent music critic and commentator on television and in magazines. The King of France's original keyboardist was Tom Siler.
"Just a Body," from the self-titled album, was featured in the 2005 romantic comedy The Baxter, and that same year Salad starred in a series of MTV commercials for "The Real World: Austin," for which the band composed and recorded a different 30-second song for each character in the show.
Best known for their humor and spontaneity, the band is highly-touted for their energetic, engaging live performances.
