The MuggleCasters
The MuggleCasters are a group of staff members from one of the most popular Harry Potter fansites, mugglenet.com. Their podcast, MuggleCast, was released August 8, 2005, and was almost an immediate hit, quickly rising to 6th most popular podcast on iTunes. The first episode featured Andrew Sims, Kevin Steck, and Ben Schoen; now, the cast also includes Jamie Lawrence, Eric Scull, Laura Thompson, Matt Britton, Micah Tannenbaum and Nicholas Myers. There has also been numerous "guest" hosts, with members of other Harry Potter Podcasts, competition winners and other people connected to MuggleNet.com and the Potter World. The podcast, which is released once a week, discusses the latest in Harry Potter news, theories, rumors, and more.
The creation of weekly shows have ended, and MuggleCasts are now released periodically when there is enough news to fill a show. The podcast is among the Top 10 podcasts of the month on Podcast Alley, a site listing the most popular podcasts, voted by some listeners. The show also features on iTunes top ten list, traditionally on Tuesdays when the show was released. MuggleCast was voted Podcast of the Year by the 2005 Weblog Awards, which are decided by popular vote. In late September 2006, it was awarded the 2006 People's Choice Award at the 2nd annual Podcast Awards in Ontario, California, as well as the Best Entertainment Podcast in October 2008.
