Tully On Tully
Natalie Foster is one of those girls, those singer-songwriter types. She knows it too. She knows what she’s good at; so she writes Natalie on Natalie.
Tully On Tully.
...And yet somehow there’s a fresh perspective, a keen ear for beautiful songwriting and a voice that delicately plucks at heartstrings. It’s Natalie on Natalie, and there’s something in it for you and me too.
Her music is a journey drawing from epic post-rock and Australian songstresses in equal parts. Soaring vocals paired with full-band arrangements, Tully’s songs are peppered with thoughtful imagery and poetic descriptions. Hear the angular drumming or the quirky, eccentric melody writing, the rhythmic focus and the dark, moody undertones – Tully On Tully has a mysterious underbelly and a dark side that quietly draws you in.
Natalie started being drawn into a world of music when she won a songwriting competition at NMIT. She enlisted the help of bassist Iain McRae and pianist Peter Corrigan and by January 2011 they commandeered the incomparable Frank Lees on drums. They began gigging and picked up a guitarist, Greg Rietwyk, along the way, organically expanding the sound to the balanced, full-band experience it is now. It’s in this way that the band's clever compositions have taken on a more epic, post-rock feel.
Their latest single 'Naked' was released in October this year and has since been added to Triple J rotation. Early 2013 should see Tully On Tully launch their debut album, which has been mastered by Greg Calbi (Grizzly Bear, Bon Iver and Alabama Shakes).
