WMD
WMD is the ambient electronic project of Michael Erickson. The prolific Electronic Musician from the pacific northwest creates lush, airy songs thrumming with the power of melancholia, nostalgia, and the bliss and sorrow of relationships. Erickson's music taps into a blend of chillwave, downtempo, and even post-rock. As daunting as that can sound, WMD lands somewhere between Tycho, Washed Out, and Baths in his deep, melodic production. His newest album, Reminisce was released in September of 2017.
Growing up in a small town, Erickson began producing music at a relatively young age. Falling in love with the internet chiptune music scene, he drew inspiration from artists such as Bit Shifter & Anamanaguchi. Erickson's style grew up as he did, and he began producing more complex and emotional music. At the age of 16, he released the album Sophrosyne. This would be his 14th album as WMD.
The release of his self-titled album WMD in 2015 marked the end of Erickson's time in his hometown. The album is drenched with that same melancholia and uncertainty that comes with leaving home for the first time.
His next album, Limerence was released in 2016. The album is capped off with a 12 minute ambient drone piece simply titled 'Serein'.
WMD's newest album, Reminisce was released in September of 2017. The hazy downtempo dive into nostalgia was inspired not only by Erickson's own past experiences, but also by the antique photographs he began collecting while writing the album.
