White Sister
White Sister was one of those bands that never quite achieved the success it deserved. Despite being signed to a major label, working with a well-known producer and writing songs that bettered their more well-known peers on more than one occasion, vocalist/bassist Dennis Churchill-Dries and company struggled to keep their heads above water throughout most of the Eighties.
White Sister released two albums, a self-titled debut – produced by Angel’s Gregg Giuffria - and ‘Fashion by Passion’.
The music, inspired by Toto, Styx and Angel, was heavy pomp rock (on the first album) and typical late 80s, keyboards oriented AOR/MELODIC ROCK/POMP on the second album.
By 1990, three quarters of the group had reorganized under the moniker Tattoo Rodeo, and armed with a leaner, bluesier sound – a la Tesla and Badlands – they signed with Atlantic Records.
The band was formed in 1980 and sadly they split a short time later in 1984
The band got back together in 2008 and play some shows here and there.
Former drummer Richard Wright unfortunately passed away in June 2006. An awesome talent taken away from us way too soon. His memorial page guestbook is located here http://www.legacy.com/guestbooks/sacbee/guestbook.aspx?n=richard-wright&pid=18370812
The following is from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_Sister_(band)
White Sister is an American hard rock and AOR band formed in 1980.[1] Their song "Save Me Tonight" appeared on the soundtrack album for the 1985 film Fright Night. Their song "Dancin' on Midnight" can be heard in the 1989 film Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers.
White Sister was formed in early 1980 by lead vocalist/bassist Dennis Churchill-Dries, guitarist Rick Chadock, and drummer Gus Moratinos. Lead vocalist/keyboardist Garri Brandon joined shortly after to form the first incarnation of the band. Initially called "TYRANT", the group began playing at the Icehouse in Pasadena and soon moving up to shows at the world famous "Troubadour" club in Hollywood, opening for acts such as XCITER (which consisted of guitarist George Lynch and drummer Mick Brown before they joined DOKKEN). As fate would have it, WHITE SISTER actually met Gregg Giuffria from ANGEL at a gas station one evening, and wound up working with him to assist with songwriting, leading Giuffria to produce WHITE SISTER demos and eventually, the first album. Original drummer Gus Moratinos left amicably in 1981 citing musical differences and was replaced by Richard Wright to round out the second incarnation.
