Windmills
There are currently three bands with the name Windmills.
1. An experimental pop/indie rock loop artist from Western BC, Canada. (2011-present)
2. A DJ/multi-instrumentalist duo from the United States. (2010-present)
3. Indie pop trio founded in Kankakee, IL and currently based in Champaign, IL
1. Born out of the beautiful Okanagan Valley, Windmills emerged in April of 2011, and in an incredibly humbling and extremely busy year has played over dozens of shows and has had the opportunity to open for a wide variety of talented bands such as Library Voices, Hey Ocean, Wake Owl, Bend Sinister, Wool on Wolves, and Andrew Allen among many others. Praised for his live shows and originality Windmills has created a buzz and a name familiar throughout the Okanagan.
In 2012 Windmills released a 9 track record that captured the complexity and energy of his live shows. “Keep Moving” is a record that represents the Okanagan Valley - the beauty and the sound, progressively pushing the boundaries of the one-man band genre while exploring mature musical themes/elements that offer a true representation of who Windmills is. Unexpectedly, “Keep Moving” found its way onto music review pages and blogs nationally and internationally, with praise for the record coming from the UK, Russia, Portugal, the US, France, Greece and many others. The efforts on “Keep Moving” also got the attention of FACTOR Canada, who noticed the work and in March of 2012 approved Windmills for a grant recognizing the time and effort spent with the record.
2013 starts with the follow up to “Keep Moving”, a 5 track EP to be released almost exactly 1 year later. “Tilting” shows an evolution in song-writing and maturity, the songs becoming more honest and heartfelt.
What started with the humblest of beginnings has grown, the momentum is building, and Windmills keep moving.
2. Framework - (emcee and DJ formerly of the Vermont hip hop crew The Loyalists) & Rex Rey (producer, multi instrumentalist from Los Angeles) got together and formed Windmills in March of 2010 after answering a Craigslist posting. Combining their skills they finished their debut album, "As Above So Below" a year later.
3. Songwriter and guitarist n.m. garcia, who had been performing as nikku neko, participated in the 2012 RPM Challenge by writing and recording Valuable Coupons Inside with drummer Matt Yeates during the month of February. They added guitarist Nicholas Yeates later that year. Windmills are currently recording a follow-up EP, Cute as Fuck.
