Witchman
"Cinematic" and "dark" are the two most common adjectives used to describe John Roome's work as Witchman, Gold Water, part of The Unknown Ghosts, or, more recently, under his own name. Getting started with a couple of dark-ambient 12"s in the mid-'90s, he was soon signed to Rob Deacon's Deviant Records, who released both his album "Explorimenting Beats" and a collection of his earlier vinyl work, "Heavy Traffic". The release of a second LP, however, was repeatedly delayed by Deviant's high volume of Paul van Dyk material, and he eventually left the UK to pursue other work. (Roome briefly made most of the "Innasylum" tracks available via his MySpace page in 2008.)
Since relocating to New York, Roome has done most of his work scoring movies (Death Race, Into the Sun, Lonely Joe), TV shows (Nip/Tuck, Masters of Horror, various CSI series) and video games (Sega's Full Auto series). Remix credits over the years have included The Creatures, Gary Numan, Finitribe, Cornershop, Bowery Electric, Ian Astbury and Curve, and he has been involved with the production of several of Alex Patterson's Orb projects ("Cydonia", "Bicycles & Tricycles", some of the badorb.com material and the largely-anonymous Unknown Ghosts record, "Transfer at Dub").
