Xaxakes
It´s the group of the singer, composer and writer Yannis Nastas. His first concert was in 1977 with the Strawberries, a pop-punk group that apart from his own compositions, also played songs by the Stranglers, Devo, Talking Heads, Clash and others. In 1980 he created the Proxies that lasted until the middle of the 90s. His involvement with this style lasted until 1983. In 1991 he started collaborating with Domini while at the same time he gave concerts with songs exclusively by Iggy Pop, Lou Reed, David Bowie and others. In 1993 the preparation for the debut album began, while by 1995 both the composition and the name of the band has been finalized, "Xaxakes". Their debut «Hey Mister Όμορφε» ("Hey Mister Handsome") was released as an independent album. Two years later, it was released under a new label with their name as its title. The pop-rock hybrid found in their work had clear references to Frank Zappa´s work through a strictly personal view. In 2000 their second album was released, «Casanova». Their song “Αu Revoir” was featured in the movie “Ο καλύτερος μου φίλος” ("My Best Friend") by Lakis Lazopoulos.
Xaxakes defined the Greek pop scene in the mid-90s, with their audio elegance and their surreal, photographic directness of their lyrics. They are boldly returning after ten years. Elements of vintage 70s rock ´n´ roll in the production, glam lurks between Philly sound strings and hordes of electric guitars, saxophones and cello in the happiest, sexiest and probably most complete album of this year where to find a matching song for it you´d have to search in your music collection (finally!) for something by Roxy Music.
