andy daniell
In a relatively short space of time Andy Daniell has achieved international recognition as an incredibly talented DJ and producer – and he’s still only 21! As Defected Records’ youngest ever in the House resident DJ, he was performing at the mighty Ministry of Sound in London when he was just 18. Now if you also consider that he made his first track (aptly titled Doin’ It) at the age of 16, and that it featured on Lee Burridge’s 24:7 Global Underground album, then you can start to appreciate just how outstanding Andy’s skills are.
Born in Southend, UK, he became totally immersed in dance music as a teenager, exploring the sounds of clubland via Radio 1 and nicking his sister’s Prodigy tapes. Driven by a deep love for house music, he set out DJing in local clubs whilst also working in a record store. In 2003 Andy’s career snowballed when he joined Defected’s artist roster. He became their Ibiza resident at El Divino, performing weekly throughout the summer to crowds of 1,500 clubbers and alongside such luminaries as Dimitri from Paris, Junior Jack & Kid Creme, Martin Solveig and Sandy Rivera. Currently living in Bournemouth, where he has established his own night called Myoozikk, Andy continues to travel the globe as a DJ, from Miami WMC 06 back to Ibiza and beyond. He has mixed several CDs, including Defected’s Eivissa 04 summer sampler and a Most Rated compilation with label leader Simon Dunmore. Spinning a wild range of styles, he holds down DJ residencies at both of Gatecrasher’s UK venues, GC1 and Discotheque, as well as his Defected residencies at Pacha in London and Ibiza.
Confirming his growing reputation as a prized producer, Andy’s second track, the disco-infused In the Groove, won him the support of Dimitri from Paris, CJ Mackintosh and Joey Negro. He has since collaborated with revered Kings of Tomorrow star, Sandy Rivera, who has been a huge source of inspiration to the gifted newcomer from Southend. Together they remixed the Sandy Rivera/Robert Owens track Just Won’t Do. Obviously impressed by Andy’s skills, Sandy has even signed a track that Andy co-produced with Timmy Vegas (called Disco Shit) to his label BlackWiz.
Andy has already carved out a remarkable career as a DJ, producer and promoter of his own night. Winning over clubbers and industry heads alike, he has been highlighted by Mixmag as one of their best Ibiza breakthrough DJs and also by M8 magazine – joining their pick of Tomorrow People. So stay tuned, Andy is certainly on one hell of a roll and you can bet your last beat that his best is yet to come! Read more on Last.fm.
