BEAST (비스트) is a boy band from South Korea that consists of six members, under Cube Entertainment. The group was originally known as B2ST, an acronym for Boys to Search for Top. However, their name was changed to BEAST (Boys of the East Standing Tall) few days before debut. They released their first mini-album Beast Is The B2ST on October 14, 2009.
The band currently consists of five members: Yoon Doo-joon, Yong Jun-hyung, Yang Yo-seob, Lee Gi-kwang, and Son Dong-woon. Jang Hyun-seung officially departed from the group on April 19, 2016.
There were many news articles on the group before its debut, as many of them had previous experience in the entertainment industry.[5][6] On October 2, their documentary, MTV B2ST was broadcasted on the MTV Chuseok Special to showcase their abilities before their official debut.[7]
2009: Debut
In late 2009 news articles started to surface online about Cube Entertainment's new group, B2ST (pronounced "Beast") as explained by member, Dong Woon, in episode 8 of their MTV documentary MTV B2ST which showcased their journey leading up to their debut. On October 14, the group's first mini-album, Beast Is the B2ST, was released selling over 20,000 copies to date. A company representative for BEAST revealed that they have sold all the albums they made at first,and they are tentatively planning to produce 5,000 more and also considering reissuing AJ's album due to the strong demands. On October 16, they made their live debut on KBS Music Bank with their promotional single, "Bad Girl". The group became popular after debuting, following various commercial calls from companies around Asia. On December 2, 2009, Beast was awarded the Rookie of the Month award by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
It was later announced by Cube Entertainment that Universal Records would be assisting Beast and 4minute with international launches of their albums. On the day of January 23, 2010, Beast will have their international promotions at Taiwan for the first time after the joining ceremony with their company CUBE Entertainment and global record company Universal Music.
Other activities
Beast was the topic of a short-lived reality show, MTV B2ST, which was hosted by MTV. The show ran on a weekly basis from August 23, 2009 to October 09, 2009, with a total of ten episodes. The whole episode was to showcase their journey to debut. On November 25, 2009, It was revealed that Beast will sing the opening song of the movie 'Attack the Gas Station 2 titled "Crazy" as the powerful performance and ambition of BEAST is strangely similar to the 4 main characters on the film 'Attack the Gas Station 2'. On January 12, 2010, 'God Of Study' OST album which already has popular idol groups, such as TMAX, T-ARA and 4MINUTE singing part 1 of the album which was released on January 14, 2010, it was later also revealed that BEAST, F(x) and FT Triple's will be participating in the OST album which was released on January 25, 2010, hoping to gain it's appeal like last year's Boys Before Flowers' OST. The song 'Ready Go' sang by BEAST, who has excellent singing abilities which dominated various music charts, has a dynamic melody and rhythm typical of BEAST. The song 'Ready Go' has an addictive chorus, and amidst the various songs on the God of Study OST, this is the most powerful and a song which lingers in your memory even after hearing it only once.

Doo Joon
Birth name: Yoon Doo Joon (Hangul: 윤두준)
Date of birth: 1989-07-04 (age 20)
Doo-joon is the leader of Beast. He was a candidate for JYP Entertainment, being featured in the Mnet documentary Yeolhyeolnama (Korean: 열혈남아, "Hot Blooded Men"). Before his debut in Beast, he auditioned for High Kick Through the Roof and was offered a role in the sitcom, but turned it down for his music career. He featured in AJ's music video for "눈물을 닦고"(Wipe the Tears) before debut. He is a member of reality-variety series Danbi, part of MBC's Sunday Sunday Night line-up.
Hyun Seung
Birth name: Jang Hyun Seung (Hangul: 장현승)
Date of birth: 1989-09-03 (age 20)
Hyun Seung first received media attention when he attempted to join Big Bang but failed to make the cut. He received a lot of concern from management when the group was being formed, as the first thing the members were instructed to do was have Hyun Seung gain weight.
Jun Hyung

Jun Hyung was first a member of Xing. He is noted to have unusual hairstyles. He also featured in AJ's music video "눈물을 닦고" with DooJoon.
He is the featured rapper in Hyuna's (현아) solo single "Change".
Yo Seob
Birth name: Yang Yo Seob (Hangul: 양요섭)
Date of birth: 1990-01-05 (age 20)
Noted to be the "cute" member of Beast, his various hairstyles have received much attention, being compared to a Fairy Pitta and a Shih Tzu among other things. A former M-Boat trainee, he was also known for his self-created videos & parodies
He is the main vocalist of Beast.
Gi Kwang

Birth name: Lee Gi Kwang (Hangul: 이기광)
Date of birth: 1990-03-30 (age 19)
Gi Kwang initially a trainee under JYP.[34] He then later transferred to the sister entertainment, Cube Entertainment, debuted as "AJ" first and later redebut as Beast`s Gikwang.
He acted in the sitcom High Kick Through the Roof.
Dong Woon
Birth name: Son Dong Woon (Hangul: 손동운)
Date of birth: 1991-06-06 (age 18)
