Waive
Waive was formed in Osaka in early 2000 by guitarist Yoshinori Sugimoto (杉本善徳) and vocalist Takayuki Tazawa (田澤孝介), although those two were quickly joined by drummer Makoto and another guitarist, Takashi Ninokata (Rui) (貮方孝司). They released their first demo tape, "Spanner", during their first live in April of 2000 and their first single, "Pink Distortion", was released in October. The band continued as most young bands do, releasing various singles and demo tapes while participating in various events such as "Loop Ash Presents in NAGOYA" and the "SHOCK WAVE CIRCUIT" tour. Makoto left Waive in August of 2001, just a few months before their one-man live at the Osaka Muse Hall.
In 2002, Waive became a five member group when a new drummer, Tarou Matsuoka, and bassist Jun Takai (淳) joined them. Together, they released their first full album "INDIES" and launched into more touring and events, such as the "Stylish wave circuit 2002" tour and the "SWEET EXTRA 2003 ~TOMORROW HISTORY~" event with other bands such as Psycho le Cemu and Plastic Tree. In December of 2003, their seventh single, "Kimi to Waraou topped the Indies Oricon charts, soon followed by their second album, "INDIES 2" making it into the top 10 in early 2004. Much of 2004 was spent touring although drummer Tarou then left the group in October.
Waive continued with four members, releasing a new single in early 2005, until it was announced on June 24th that the group would be disbanding after a last tour and two last releases; the single, "Baby, I Love You", and their third and final album, "Hurt", which was released in October.
Their last concert together was held on December 1st of 2005 at the Shibuya AX and was later released in 2006 on DVD with a special edition being available only to their fanclub.
As for life after Waive, Yoshinori Sugimoto has begun a solo career and is currently signed to Danger Crue, the same label as SID and Ken. Takayuki Tazawa has formed a new group called Strobo with Masato Kitano which is on the Avex label, home to artists such as Olivia and Kirito. Jun Takai has joined a new band called Leaf, which appears to be unsigned at this time. Read more on Last.fm.
